Even though Ihavandhoo was reportedly late to learn the trade of fisheries in the atoll, it was one of the islands which witnessed a massive improvement in fisheries over a short period of time. Thus, the island was dubbed "Masveri Ihavandhoo" (meaning Ihavandhoo - island of fisheries).
