Hannam Supermarket opened its Burnaby location on North Road in 1998, and the surrounding area gradually developed into an important hub for Korean restaurants, grocery stores, cafés, shops, and other businesses. North Road itself also has a much older history. The road dates back to the 1850s, when it was built to connect New Westminster with Port Moody. Today, it forms part of the boundary between Burnaby and Coquitlam and is one of the main corridors through the area.
