Tariq Hameed Karra (JKPCC President, MLA Central Shalteng) Meets Hunger Strikers and Protesters on Day 7 of the GDC Thathri Hunger Strike Government Degree College Thathri was established in 2011 and has been functioning in a makeshift building ever since. Protesters describe the facility as being "not better than a primary school." Over the years, land for the construction of a permanent college campus was identified on multiple occasions, but the project was repeatedly delayed. Protesters attribute these delays to the negligence of the government and the Higher Education Department. In 2019, a portion of state land was identified, and 44 kanals were recommended for acquisition for the college. However, no progress has been made on the ground since then. In 2024, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the relocation of the college from the makeshift building at RP Gate to buildings owned by the Sheep Husbandry Department. Although some furniture and other materials were shifted, the process was abruptly halted. To date, the college continues to operate from an old building belonging to the Rural Development Department.
