Rasheed Kidwai on Shivakumar: Congress's Crisis Manager & Karnataka's Kingmaker

Rasheed Kidwai joins Roportaj to discuss his biography of D.K. Shivakumar, tracing the Congress leader's journey from student politics in Kanakapura to becoming the party's indispensable crisis manager and Karnataka's Chief Minister. In this conversation, Kidwai -- veteran journalist and author of D.K. Shivakumar: Congress's Crisis Manager, Karnataka's Kingmaker --unpacks the making of a politician who has repeatedly saved the Congress in high-stakes battles, from the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat to the Karnataka chief ministerial tussle. We discuss Shivakumar's unyielding loyalty to the Gandhi family, his reputation as the "Rock of Kanakapura," and the question of whether his influence can extend beyond his home state. Kidwai also reflects on what the book reveals about Congress's internal dynamics, the art of political crisis management, and whether Shivakumar's next test is governance rather than electioneering. About the guest: Rasheed Kidwai is a journalist, author, and political analyst. He is the author of several books on Indian politics, including biographies of Sonia Gandhi and Sharad Pawar.
