Soon afterward, those responsible for revealing its existence were assassinated, and the teams sent to hunt down the League suffered devastating losses—of ten elite operatives dispatched in pursuit, only two returned. The League was ultimately declared destroyed, though later declassified records suggested that a thirteenth member may have existed and escaped the purge. Trivia: During the early development of Mass Effect 2, a salarian assassin was planned as a potential squadmate for Shepard. According to the concept material, the character was to be a descendant of the League of One, join the crew of the Normandy, and assist in the fight against the Collectors. The storyline would also have involved a pursuit led by Major Kirrahe. The character was ultimately cut from the game and never became part of the official canon.
