1971 Chevrolet Vega: The First Prototype Lasted 8 Miles & the Engine Self-Destructed in Driveways I have to say, this is one of the most instructive engineering failure stories in American automotive history. In 1969, the first Chevrolet Vega prototype lasted eight miles at GM's own proving ground before the front end fell off. Two years later it won Motor Trend's Car of the Year. By its third recall, 95 percent of all Vegas built before May 1972 had critical safety flaws. And GM eventually notified 1.3 million owners it would cover engine damage caused by overheating. I hope you enjoy this look at the 1971 Chevrolet Vega. If you did, please like, comment, and subscribe. Thanks for watching and take care.
