Malediction - Chronology of Distortion (Compilation)

Malediction are one of the less celebrated underground greats of UK death metal. Starting out in a more primitive, grinding death metal form, the band quickly developed a penchant for vast, more open-ended structures of often majestic death metal with a dark, brooding sense of melody. Malediction had several short-form releases out in the early '90s, apart from the excellent Chronicles of Dissention live album, but both The Millennium Cotillion full-length and The Tears That Precede Birth compilation did not officially see the light of day at the time. So, this 2016 compilation is a very worthy listen, choosing songs from various releases, a few of them in unreleased versions, and presenting them in a way that takes the listener on a journey with the band from 1990-'94. As compilations go, this one is absolutely essential, and is possibly the precursor to new material from the band.
