Australia is the sixth largest country on Earth yet one of the most sparsely populated, with over seventy percent of its territory covered by desert and semi-arid scrubland. Most of its twenty-six million people live along a narrow coastal strip in the southeast and southwest, while the vast interior known as the Outback remains almost completely empty, with towns separated by hundreds of kilometers of red dirt and silence.
In cities like Sydney and Melbourne, life feels relaxed and modern, with a strong coffee culture, weekend barbecues and morning surf sessions before work. But in the Outback, families live without mobile signal, children attend school via satellite, and the nearest doctor may be a three-hour flight away. Cattle stations in the interior can be larger than some European countries, and the people who work them endure temperatures above 45°C for months at a time.
In this documentary we travel from the gleaming harbors of Sydney to the ancient red rocks of Uluru, from the tropical rainforests of Queensland to the windswept cliffs of the Great Australian Bight. We meet miners in the Pilbara, Aboriginal communities with sixty thousand years of history, and young Australians who left the cities to live where the roads end.
Australia is a land of impossible distances and brutal contrasts, where nature always has the final word through droughts, bushfires and floods. Living here means accepting that the most breathtaking beauty is found precisely where civilization ends and the red desert begins.
