We drove deep into Paraguay’s Chaco for one of our wildest road trips yet, and almost turned around before the adventure even really began.
On this Filadelfia, Paraguay road trip, we headed into the heart of the Paraguayan Chaco, a remote region known for extreme heat, endless dirt roads, wildlife, Mennonite communities, salt lagoons and some of the most unexpected landscapes we’ve seen in Paraguay.
Things got chaotic fast.
Before we even made it to Filadelfia, we blew a tire on a dusty Chaco highway and had to decide whether to turn around or keep driving deeper into the region. We kept going, and from there, the trip only got more interesting.
During this Paraguay travel adventure, we explored Filadelfia, drove deep into the Chaco countryside, followed hidden-key instructions to reach Laguna Salada Chaco Lodge, found hundreds of flamingos, walked through thick mud that felt like quicksand, explored an animal refuge and got completely lost inside a massive hedge maze.
The Paraguayan Chaco completely surprised us. We expected heat, dust, isolation and rough roads, but we also found beautiful cafés, great restaurants, wildlife, incredible scenery, Canadian Mennonite history and a side of Paraguay we had never experienced before.
If you’re planning a trip to Filadelfia Paraguay, Loma Plata, Laguna Salada or anywhere in the Chaco Paraguay, this video will give you a realistic look at what a road trip through the region can actually be like.
