I didn’t write “NOT ALONE” from a distance. I took a drive through an Ohio River town with a history that’s hard to ignore — addiction, pills, homelessness, sickness, and families that have carried the weight of it for years. I went there expecting to see a town still completely beaten down by everything I had heard about it. Instead, I saw something different. I saw a downtown coming back. New schools. New businesses. New families. Treatment centers and people working to rebuild a place that had been through hell. But I also saw the shelters. I saw people outside a treatment facility. I heard about the homeless camp that had been torn down. And I talked to someone who told me what stuck with me most: we should be doing more to help them. That’s where this song came from. Because rebuilding buildings is important. Cleaning up streets is important. Bringing businesses and families back is important. But we can’t rebuild a town and forget the people who are still hurting inside it. “NOT ALONE” is for the person fighting addiction tonight. The person sleeping somewhere they never imagined they would. The family watching someone they love disappear into drugs. The person in recovery trying to make it through one more day. And it’s for every town that has been knocked down but refuses to stay there. There’s been a lot of damage. There’s also a lot of hope. The story isn’t over. You are NOT ALONE.
