Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans is a French commune, located in the south of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitanie region. Historically and culturally, the town is in the Vallespir, former viscountcy, attached to France by the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659) and corresponding approximately to the Tech valley, from its source to Céret. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Tech, the river of el Terme, the river of Saint-Laurent, the river of Fou and by various other small rivers. The town has a remarkable natural heritage: a Natura 2000 site (“the Tech”) and a natural area of ​​ecological, faunal and floristic interest. Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans is a rural commune with a population of 1,036 in 2020, having experienced a population peak of 3,023 in 1906. Its inhabitants are called Laurentins or Laurentines.
