Muk Lau Yan perform "Before Midnight" at Perelman Performing Arts Center, 6 WTC NYC Sept. 28, 2026

Muk Lau Yan is an original mystery series in development by software engineer Xi Chen and designer Pu Cao, set within Chinese American communities in the United States. Performing under the provisional name Muk Lau Yan, the duo, joined by guest cellist Teksuko, will present selections of theme songs and original score from the project. Drawing inspiration from the experiences of the Chinese diaspora—displacement, longing, and resilience—the music combines Chinese folk songwriting with elements of noise and experimental sound. Raw, emotionally charged, and deeply personal, their performance embraces a lo-fi, DIY aesthetic while exploring the tensions between individual lives and larger social forces. Both Xi Chen and Pu Cao were active figures in Beijing’s underground music scene in the early 2000s, while Teksuko is a New York–based cellist known for her adventurous and experimental approach to performance. 《木楼人》 (Muk Lau Yan)，是一部正在创作中的以美国华人社区为背景的悬疑探案故事剧集，由软件工程师陈曦与设计师曹璞联合创作。此次二位将以“木楼人”为临时组合名称，携特邀大提琴手 Teksuko为听众带来《木楼人》剧集中的部分主题音乐及配乐。 木楼人的故事与音乐关注在美华人群体的状态，离散、乡愁和挣扎。现场在朴实的中文民谣基础上，结合噪音与碾核实验音乐元素，用以指代个体与体制间的激烈冲突。木楼人的表达将极具真诚与情绪的爆发张力，同时又富有丰富而细腻的层次，他们的声音粗粒真实，Lofi与di.y的态度贯穿始终。特别指出的是，陈曦与曹璞是2000年初活跃在北京地下摇滚圈的代表人物，大提琴手Teksuko更是纽约的一位极富有实验精神的演奏家。相信他们的表演会打动到你。 PERFORMERS Xi Chen & Pu Cao.:Muk Lau Yan Teksuko: Cello Layla Chen:Backing vocals Before Midnight 明我，就要离开。 请相信，我会回来。 At daybreak I must leave.
