PUNK MUSICIAN hears MAPHRA for the FIRST TIME | “Kill or Be Killed”

I went into MAPHRA completely deaf, dumb & blind. All I had heard was that she was supposed to be an exceptional singer. That voice... This is my first reaction to MAPHRA performing her vocal cover of Jutes’ “Kill or Be Killed”—and I wasn’t prepared for the amount of expression she could pack into one performance. Her vocal control is ridiculous: that bright but deep clean tone, the rasp, the incredibly full distorted scream and the contrast between absolute power and genuine vulnerability. She does A LOT, but somehow it never feels like too much. By the end, I was genuinely stunned. Her interpretation gets straight to the heart of the song: angry, emotional, beautiful and vulnerable. Sometimes I feel like I’m made of stone—but this shit moves mountains. I haven’t heard the original Jutes version yet. Should I hear that next, or continue down the MAPHRA rabbit hole with another cover?
