Something happens to our social lives as we get older.
I've noticed that my own world has become a little smaller over time. Fewer people. Fewer obligations. Less interest in maintaining relationships simply because they've always been there.
And strangely enough, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing.
I started wondering whether this was simply a personal change—or whether there might actually be something about aging that changes the way we choose our relationships, spend our emotional energy, and think about our time.
In this video, I explore that question through personal observation, psychology, and research on aging—including socioemotional selectivity theory and the idea that our priorities can shift as our perception of time changes.
Maybe getting older isn't always about losing our social world.
Maybe sometimes we're editing it.
I'd love to know what you've noticed in your own life. Has your social circle changed as you've gotten older? Do you miss what it used to be—or are you happier with a smaller, more meaningful circle?
