I Bought a 30 Inch Baritone Guitar: SubZero Rogue VI First Impressions

A 30 inch baritone, straight out of the box and played clean before it gets pushed into heavy tones. This is the SubZero Rogue VI 30, and this is my honest first look at it: what arrived, how it was set up, what I found wrong with it, how it sounds, and the one mod I am doing next. I had been waiting for this one. Affiliate links. They cost you nothing extra and they keep this channel going. WHAT ARRIVED IN THE BOX It was double boxed, a box inside a box. The first thing I noticed is a trend with these SubZero guitars, which is that the build quality is okay. The frets are nicely rolled off, but there is a finishing blemish, a scuff and a scratch, and the neck join looked a bit weird to me. Overall I still think it looks amazing. The knobs felt a bit cheap and I suspected the electronics might be quite cheap. I was also not sure what the intonation would be like, because I had slight issues with the Harley Benton. It was not perfect, but it was usable. THE SETUP I tuned it up and stretched the strings, which is what you should do with any new guitar. The action was a bit high and it needed quite a bit of pressure to fret the notes, so I planned to check the neck and try to lower it. The intonation turned out to be pretty decent, and it should only improve once the action comes down. HOW IT SOUNDS There is no split coil feature on this guitar, just two humbuckers, so I played the bridge, the middle position and the neck clean, then added drive. These 30 inch baritones sound a bit weird when you add just a little bit of overdrive, but you can get some cool tones out of it when you push it harder. THE VERDICT So far I am quite impressed. If I get the setup and my playing a little better, I am pretty sure I am going to be fairly happy with this guitar. The one mod I am doing very soon is a Seymour Duncan Mark Holcomb bridge pickup, because it has the split coil function, and I think it will improve the tone since that pickup is made for heavy tunings, very articulate, clear and high output.
