How to Paint a Whimsical Bird in Watercolor

I have two watercolor friends that I find myself constantly referring to for new ways of looking at art, and their styles could not be more different! They are Natasha, The Mightier Pencil, and Ohn Mar Win. They've both been using a technique where they apply paint to the paper before doing the "real" painting.
