Queen Draga's Fake Pregnancy — Did It Get Her Killed? In June 1903, army officers searched the royal palace in Belgrade for almost two hours before they found King Alexander and Queen Draga of Serbia hidden behind a secret door. Less than three years earlier, Draga had announced she was expecting an heir. Russian doctors later declared there would be no birth, and within months, officers were plotting to kill her on her birthday. Was Queen Draga's pregnancy a fraud or a tragic mistake? Did it get her killed, or was it only the excuse her killers needed? This documentary follows Draga Mašin from her troubled childhood and her first marriage to the brother of the man who would lead her murderers, through the engagement that brought down a government, the gilded cradle made for a child who never came, the Tsar's doctors, the rumour of a baby swap, and the May Coup of 1903. We put every accusation on trial using the killers' own 1905 memorandum, eyewitness-era books by Čedomilj Mijatović and Herbert Vivian, and modern Serbian historians.
