She first met Nicholas “KJ Stark” in late September of 2022 on Twitter through her author’s profile via direct message. They then progressed into texting and then first spoke on the phone in November. They met for the first time on December 16, 2022 in Pennsylvania. She was initially cautious meeting him as she was recently divorced and living alone, so she asked him to provide verification about who he was, to which he provided a driver’s license and a verification of employment letter.
