They Went Camping in an Empty Cabin, What Happened That Night Was Terrifying | 3 Hikers

Three cabin horror stories from solo hikers and backcountry campers who entered remote shelters thinking they were empty. By morning, each of them knew something had been inside with them the entire night. These true horror stories come from submitted accounts — names and locations changed at their request. Account 1 — A solo hiker caught in a storm in the Monongahela National Forest found an unlocked cabin and stepped inside. The door had no handle on the interior. The latch was on the outside only. The scratch marks low on the wall were the next thing he noticed. He put his jacket back on and went back into the storm. Account 2 — Two friends exploring an unmapped cabin in the Ouachita National Forest found the stove still warm. Someone had been there that morning. No gear. No pack. No person. Just a warm stove and a ring in the dust where a cup had sat recently. They had not passed anyone on the trail. They packed up and left without saying a word. Account 3 — A solo camper in the Nantahala National Forest went inside a cabin to escape the cold. In the far corner was something covered with a canvas tarp. The size of a person sitting cross-legged. She went to sleep with it there. When she woke up the shape underneath had changed. She did not lift the tarp. She packed her bag and walked out.
