de hopman - verdinaso battle song/translation and historical context

_____________________________________________________________________ "The Captain" (Dutch: *De Hopman*) is a song of the Union of Dutch National Solidarists. The lyrics call for national unity and loyalty to the leader. _____________________________________________________________________ The Union of Dutch National-Solidarists (Dutch: *Verbond van Dietsche Nationaal-Solidaristen*, abbreviated as Verdinaso) was a Belgian revolutionary conservatve and authoritarian political movement that existed from October 1931 to May 1941. Its leader was Joris van Severen. Initially, the movement advocated for the creation of a Pan-Dutch state uniting Dutch-speaking lands. After 1934, Verdinaso abandoned this idea and shifted its focus toward building a corporatist, organic state encompassing Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, drawing inspiration from the historical legacy of the Burgundian Netherlands. Unlike the Rexist Party, Verdinaso catered primarily to intellectual and elite circles, placing less emphasis on populist politics and mass mobilization. _____________________________________________________________________ Audio status: Date of recording: ?
