Being able to keep up with even big, experienced players from the very first second is a real unique selling point of this game. But this is only possible if you are willing to spend at least a little money for using this game. If you develop very fast, are really successful, and want to secure your bases adequately, you should calculate on the home map with about 5€/base, on further maps even 8€/base. If you make some concessions, i.e. to expand bases in already relatively secure areas less strongly, you can get by with about half.
