Did Killing My Queen Actually Work?

A month and a half ago, I killed the queen in one of my hives. Today, I'm opening it back up to find out — did it actually work? But there's real growth here: new wax being drawn out, capped brood, eggs, and larva. Given how tough this year has been for beekeepers in general, I'm comfortable with where this hive stands heading into winter. This hive won't be producing honey this year — that was never really in the cards.
