Uhuru Kenyatta Breaks Silence on Opposition Funding Claims Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has publicly responded to accusations that he is funding or backing Kenya’s opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking during the 23rd anniversary commemoration of former Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa in Trans Nzoia County, Uhuru said he is not interested in political power but maintained that he has the right to advise Kenyans. He also criticised what he described as the shrinking democratic space in Kenya, particularly restrictions on political rallies and the right of Kenyans to choose where they belong politically. The event was attended by several opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Charity Ngilu and Justin Muturi, who spoke about efforts to build a united political front ahead of the 2027 elections.
