Wildwind Race around the Rock 2025

At Wildwind Holidays in Vassiliki, Levkas, Greece, they organize a special kind of catamaran race called Race around the Rock. It is special because they only do it when there is a very strong cross shore wind, making it a beam reach for the major part of the course, and because of the conditions at the rock itself. The rock is a tiny island at the very end of the peninsula where the wind from the open sea meets the thermal winds that reign in Vassiliki bay. As a result the wind around the rock is extremely treacherous as it changes constantly in force - from 0 to 20+ knots - and direction - like 180 degrees in a few seconds. Being the first at the rock is no guarantee to be the first around it and being the first around it is no guarantee to getting the first useable wind to be on your way back to the finish. All in all a fun race for those who like a bit of a challenge and who can accept that being (un)lucky plays a big part in who wins.
