Wrapping it up for this particular trip. If you wanted 4-day-or-so section that had great scenery, relatively easy camping logistics, and a minimum of road walking, I can recommend this bit.
I chose to stop at Cummins Cr. because there's a long section southbound from there where the "trail" is routed on 101, in sections where there is no safe place to walk. For this main reason- a route that isn't really viable to be done safely- I cannot recommend the OCT as a thru hike. It's a pieced-together mish-mash of poorly maintained trails, beach walks, and road walking, artistically given the name of a "trail". Much improvement and easement acquisition needs to be done to remedy this, and I honestly don't think it's ever going to happen.
But I do know that, in the coming years, I will be returning to do various parts of it. Nothing really compares with the Oregon Coast.
