Up from the stillness, deep and wide
The magick space spreads every side
Where symbols rise like morning smoke
The meanings emerge before they're spoke
Months of practice build the ground
Where inner sight and skill are found
Not every soul shall pierce the veil
With the same force or the same tale
PRE-CHORUS
Some shall cross completely through
Lose their flesh in astral blue
While most shall keep one foot outside
Colors subdued, the light spread wide
Yet brightness is no measure true
Of what the inner working can do
A dim and quiet vision's worth
More than any bright display of mirth
CHORUS
What matters most is what you find
The meanings gathered in the mind
The slow expansion, sure and deep
Of all the truths your symbols keep
For symbols are the lowest rung
Of ladders higher than our tongue
Anchor points where meaning clings
To reach the edge of greater things
To reach the edge of greater THINGS
Some symbols wear their nature plain
Like gods whose faces still explain
The inner truth their forms reflect
A living mirror, not a sect
Others hold their meanings fast
By habit only, unsurpassed
By reason, yet by custom bound
To the place where their power has been found
Others still are seized by need
Born of the moment like a seed
That flowers once and falls away
The urgent work is done that day
PRE-CHORUS
Yet every symbol seen in trance
Connects to power in its dance
To archetype and thought-form spun
From places beyond the waking sun
To reach beyond the symbol's face
You must extend through inner space
Quiet all the chattering mind
Or it will change what you would find
CHORUS
What matters most is what you find
The meanings gathered in the mind
The slow expansion, sure and deep
Of all the truths your symbols keep
For symbols are the lowest rung
Of ladders higher than our tongue
Anchor points where meaning clings
To reach the edge of greater things
To reach the edge of greater THINGS
Believe not, yet disbelieve not quite
Just let the meanings come to light
For preconception clouds the glass
Will not let the true light pass
The self that clings to what it knows
Will dim what every symbol shows
So hold your judgment in suspense
Refuse to weigh the evidence
While scrying's work is yet in flight
Take the symbols dark or light
FINAL CHORUS
What matters most is what you find
The meanings gathered in the mind
The slow expansion, sure and deep
Of all the truths your symbols keep
For symbols are the lowest rung
Of ladders higher than our tongue
Anchor points where meaning clings
To reach the edge of greater things
To reach the edge of greater things
Reach reach reach beyond
TO REACH THE EDGE OF GREATER THINGS
