What are children in Pakistan really missing from school beyond textbooks, grades, and exams? In this episode, Dr. Sidra Ayoub sits down with school psychologist Sana Chaudhary for an honest conversation about the realities of education in Pakistan and the role school psychology can play in helping children learn, develop, and thrive. The conversation explores why some children struggle with learning, attention, behavior, emotional regulation, or confidence, and why these challenges are not always a reflection of a child’s ability or effort. They discuss how school psychologists look beyond academic performance to understand what may be happening underneath a child’s behavior and learning difficulties. Dr. Sidra and Sana also discuss the lack of awareness around school psychology in Pakistan, the stigma surrounding special education and individualized support, and why children should not have to struggle for years before their needs are recognized. From learning differences and ADHD to autism, anxiety, trauma, working memory, and processing speed, the discussion highlights the importance of early identification and appropriate intervention. One of the key themes of the conversation is child behavior. Instead of immediately labeling a child as “difficult,” what happens when we ask what the behavior is trying to communicate? The episode looks at how frustration, fear, learning struggles, emotional needs, and other underlying factors can influence behavior at school and at home. The conversation also challenges the idea that school psychology or additional support is only for children with disabilities. Gifted and talented students can also have social-emotional, attention, or learning needs that require understanding and individualized support. This episode is an important conversation for parents, teachers, educators, school professionals, and anyone interested in improving how children are supported within Pakistan’s education system. If this conversation gave you a new perspective on how children learn and what they need from schools, share your thoughts in the comments. School psychology sits inside the wider field of educational psychology, but almost nobody has heard of it in Pakistan, and that's the gap this channel exists to close. On this channel, I break down what actually affects a child's success at school: ADHD, ADHD assessment and diagnosis, working memory, executive functioning, processing speed, adaptive behavior, learning difficulties, dyslexia, autism support, social-emotional learning, child behavior management, and student mental health. I also explain what a psycho-educational evaluation and psychological assessment for children actually involve, the way I'd explain it to a parent sitting across from me, not a textbook. This channel is for parents trying to understand their child, teachers supporting struggling students, and anyone curious what a school psychologist actually does, in the US, in Pakistan, or anywhere else. I also run PEECA Services, where our team carries out psycho-educational evaluations for kids and teens.
