Here we improve a Shopify product page so it only shows the images that belong to the selected variant, instead of dumping every thumbnail on screen at once. I show the full approach: assigning a featured image to each variant in the product editor, grouping the images of each color by giving them the exact same alt text, then finding the thumbnail elements in the theme files (product.liquid and the product template section). We use the alt text as a data attribute to tag each thumbnail with its color, filter them when a variant is selected, and add fallback logic for a variant that has no featured image.
