This was to be opening day but I feel that since it took too long to get my permits, I wasn't able to market it enough and had no hikers with me on that day, but I did the hike planned, and then some, anyway. While I was not able to get my permit to include Robbers roost and Geronimo's cave, I was approved to hike to Fremont saddle and Lone Tree. So I started the day at 8am on the trail and after taking in the breathtaking view of Weavers needle that never gets old, i turned towards Robbers roost. I took the wrong turn at first and looked for it for close to an hour before realizing I was not in the right area. So after backtracking I found the trail, with some service help, and was able to find it again. While none of the trails were super busy all day, I had all 3 locations to myself for the entire time I was at each. After chilling at the roost for over an hour, I headed out and towards Lone Tree lookout. I passed a couple on the way back to the saddle and chatted for a few before reaching it, then had the tree to myself too. I searched for camping spots for once the backpack trip becomes available from Canyon Lake, then after a few pics I went off to Geronimo's cave, which I had to myself as well. I chilled there for a while enjoying the peace and quiet and the sounds of nature, and of people heading out on the Peralta trail below. I wanted to test out my new headlamps to see how they compare to the one I have, so I started heading out about an hour before sunset. I took the way I knew since I would be hiking in the dark, but passed one person when I left the cave that was doing the cave loop. I was glad not to pass any angry sticks along the way that rattled, but I did pass a hiker with 8-legs on the trail On my way back down I was treated to another beautiful Arizona sunset before darkness rolled in and I had to pull out my lamps. It worked quite well and one is in each rental pack incase days last into the evening darkness, but most hikes should be done before dark. While this hike, even with all 3 locations, is not an all day hike, I made it one and enjoyed the day in nature. I started on the trail at 8am, and got back to my Jeep around 7pm. Hoping to get some marketing in so I can get some to join me for the Miners needle this coming weekend, and the hikes in the future. This was my attempt at editing a shorter video, as I think I have parts of this hike already in my videos. But I had to find a new editing program and play with it to get this video, so hopefully my editing skills will improve the more I practice. I recorded it all on my GoPro, so not sure why the one scene in this video is smaller than the other frames, but looking to get a better video camera to use on the trails. But all in all it was a very relaxing day, but I didn't last long after getting home. So until next week, hope to see some of you on the trails, and as always, safe travels.
