Vipranarayana is a dance drama in the Yaksha Gana style with immortal lyrics by Devulapalli Krishna Sastri with resonating music composed by Balantrapu Rajanikanta Rao and produced by Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi. This recording was directed by Seetha Ratnakar for Doordarshan and the original tape is lost. I have been attempting to retrieve and showcase some of the wonderful DD recordings that were lost but mercifully saved as VHS copies by some artists. I could only salvage excerpts of this dance drame as some parts of the tape were damaged completely. Vipranarayana was originally a radio musical play and was adapted as a dance drama and specially choreographed by Shri Vempati Chinna Satyam for Rathna (Papa) Kumar. The debut stage performance at Hyderabad had Dr.M. Balamuralikrishna singing live with cine actor Chandramohan doing the title role. The DD recording was done more than a decade later and I am sharing whatever I have as it is pure vintage. 2 the songs from this dance drama have been incorporated permanently into the Kuchipudi repertoire.
