Yaesu FT-891 CW POTA Activation at US-7145 Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area (2026-09-20)

Index and QSO chapters in the description ... I was somewhat encouraged to make a POTA stop on the way into town today (2026-09-20). This makes my 100th activation at US-7145 Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area (Eagle's Nest Certificate). I didn't have a lot of time for the activation but wanted to give it a try. It was relatively early in the day, so I opted to use the 40M Sporty Forty coil with the 17' whip to activate on 40M. The RF sees the top of the vehicle as the ground plane on 40M and I have to add an extension to get a good SWR. I ran the mobile FT-891 at 25W for CW and was very happy with the pile-up that followed the CQ. A big thanks to all the hunters that helped activate the park. 00:00:04 Intro 00:01:40 Setup 00:03:00 Activation 00:29:50 Recap The following links were compiled using André's (VE2ZDX) ADIF to YouTube utility: https://ve2zdx.com/toolkit Time Callsign UTC 00:06:30 W5KB 14˸25 00:07:08 K8RLE 14˸26 00:08:35 VE2UXJ 14˸27 00:09:37 KC5F 14˸28 00:10:34 K9IS 14˸29 00:11:21 N9GZ 14˸30 00:12:22 K9VPL 14˸31 00:13:52 WB3DDJ 14˸33 00:14:54 W9TNC 14˸34 00:15:57 N0ZT 14˸35 00:16:46 N2QLV 14˸36 00:17:47 W8BBM 14˸37 00:18:35 W8LUT 14˸37 00:21:32 WD8NVN 14˸40 00:22:25 W9GTA 14˸42 00:23:30 W0PWE 14˸43 00:24:41 KA9DCU 14˸44 00:25:49 W3SKG 14˸45 00:27:10 WB8JAY 14˸46 00:27:53 WA9VFD 14˸47 Equipment List: Yaesu FT-891 https://www.yaesu.com/product-detail.... 213" Wolf River Coils Telescopic Whip https://wolfrivercoils.com/order.html Wolf River Coils Sporty Forty coil https://wolfrivercoils.com/order.html Diamond K400 lip mount https://www.diamondantenna.net/k400.html Comet AD-35 Adapter (SO-239 to 3/8 24) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AR07WDQ Tuftlen kneeboard https://tufteln.com/products/knee-boa...
