Thank you :)   / cmrr   The Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 21 in E minor K. 304 is a sonata for piano and violin by Mozart, composed in 1778 in Mannheim and Paris, along with several other sonatas written in a rather unusual two-movement formula. It was at this time that the death of the composer's mother, Anna Maria, occurred. Mozart's concerns are reflected in this sonata, the only violin sonata written in the minor key. The influence of the Sturm und Drang movement is evident. Mozart is definitely a composer who can be described as romantic (who uses music to express his personal feelings). The only sonata for piano and violin Mozart wrote in a minor key is also the best known and most frequently performed. The sonata is dedicated to the Electress of the Palatinate, Elisabeth Auguste. In Mozart’s previous violin sonatas, the piano part was dominant, where as both instruments are represented equally as they duet together in this sonata. As is typical of Mozart’s compositions, this piece is a combination of music that appears to be simple and accessible, yet that is also technically difficult and demanding. Music lovers know that this beautiful sonata is particularly intense in emotion.
