Jeondea'N de Mele (Carnivals of the Living) is the story of a mother who has been waiting for her son and her family to come visit her. They do come, but only on a fleeting visit - that too, as religious holier-than-thou entities. About the author: Gurdial Singh (1933–2016) was one of Punjabi literature’s most celebrated novelists and short-story writers. Rooted in Punjab’s Malwa region, his writing portrayed rural life with compassion, giving voice to people facing poverty, caste discrimination and social injustice. His best-known novels include Marhi Da Deeva, Anhe Ghore Da Daan and Parsa. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award (1975) for Adh Chanani Raat, the Padma Shri (1998) and the Jnanpith Award (1999).
