You’ve Probably Driven Past Tunitas Creek Beach… Here’s What You’re Missing

If you’ve driven Highway 1 along the Half Moon Bay Coastside, chances are you’ve passed Tunitas Creek Beach. But have you ever actually stopped to explore it? After my previous video about this area got a lot of interest, I decided to head back and give you a much closer look at what’s actually here at Tunitas Creek Beach, just south of Half Moon Bay, California. In this full tour, I’m walking through the Tunitas Creek Beach facility from the parking areas all the way down toward the beach. We’ll check out the trails, viewing areas, amphitheater, historical displays, EV charging stations, bike facilities, restrooms and the much easier beach access that’s now available. There’s also a surprising amount of Coastside history here. You’ll see information about the Portolá Expedition, Gordon’s Chute, the old Ocean Shore Railroad, the Ohlone people and the early agriculture and logging that helped shape this stretch of the San Mateo County coast. And of course, the real reason to stop here is the scenery. The wide sandy beach, dramatic coastal bluffs, Tunitas Creek and Pacific Ocean views make this one of those places that can look completely different depending on the season. During the wetter months, you may even catch water flowing from the bluffs and Tunitas Creek reaching the ocean. I’ll also show you the Highway 1 entrance and a few things you should know before turning into the park, especially when traffic is moving quickly along the coast.
