Our first stop of the day is in Lundin Links - a town that grew to meet the Victorian and Edwardian demand for tourism! But this place has been settled and traveled through for millennia - looking over towards Edinburgh, its hard to imagine how the people who left the Standing Stones of Lundin once lived here. Sea shells collect here among the rocks... but, we also find some lovely sea glass, marked by the years they have spent on their unique oceanic journeys. Nicole takes moment to describe C-Marks - those textured fingerprints that make each piece one of a kind. Craig finds a lovely piece of poison bottle and the most incredible pictorial pottery piece we have seen. Its was here that we enjoyed watching the seal population of the First of Forth, bask on the rocks, and swim playfully in the waters... Watching them watching us, reminded us of the Selkie Folk - creatures that appear human on land though become like seals when in the water... We take a moment to look back at that piece of Scottish folklore. Back in the adventure car, we speed off towards Lower Largo - the home of the inspiration for Robinson Crusoe - but not before Nicole rescues a buoy from the sea! We find Victorian jam jars, sea glass and the first little shell bird pieces and a marvelous clay marble! Nicole gives you tips on how to spot Pirate Sea Glass and tells you about where it comes from. Next stop, Elie, and Ruby Bay, though we have yet to find a single garnet on this beach - we'll just have to keep coming back! Ruby Bay is also home to Lady Janet Anstruther's Tower - a purpose built place to rest after bathing in the sea here. Craig retraces the story of this infamous local character before we get back on the road. We end with a look back on Ardross - an overlooked part of the coastal path, but it is well worth a visit - its a stunning landscape! The castle ruins look over the crescent bay below Ardross Castle. The views across the River Forth, from atop the cliff, are stunning - the Isle of May, North Berwick, The Berwick Law, and the incredible Bass Rock... and, on a clear day, the hills of Edinburgh can all be seen from this apply named place - Oh! Ardross means high point in Gaelic! We love taking this trip back along the Fife Coastal Path with you - its a great way to bring what we have been doing together and to give a clear guide to the places we visit and enjoy finding beach treasures in... We always only take what we can use and leave anything else behind for other beachcombers and mudlarkers - there is treasure enough for us all!
