Join me outside Arriva's Jackson Road depot in St Helens on Saturday 5th September 2026 for Part 1 of 2 documenting a historic night for bus services in the Liverpool City Region, as Arriva's operation in St Helens comes to an end ahead of the introduction of bus franchising. In this first part, we capture the final flurry of Arriva activity at Jackson Road during the Saturday evening, with buses continuing to leave the depot for their final evening journeys while others return after completing their last duties. As the evening progresses, the changing nature of the depot becomes increasingly apparent. Alongside buses still entering and leaving in normal service, other vehicles begin to leave Jackson Road for storage, marking the start of the process of clearing the depot as decades of Arriva operation in St Helens draw to a close. The footage provides a fascinating snapshot of a bus depot in transition – part normal Saturday evening operation and part the beginning of a major overnight changeover. This is Part 1 of a two-part video documenting the transition. Part 2 continues later into the night as the final Arriva buses leave Jackson Road, the new fleet moves into the depot and St Helens prepares for the beginning of the new Liverpool City Region franchised bus network.
