Ant Speed Comparison in 3D | The Speed Beneath Our Feet

Ant speed comparison through seven original animated micro-worlds: woodland ants, harvester ants, longhorn crazy ants and desert sprinters. Follow the movement, explore the measurements and discover the extraordinary Saharan silver ant. Music and sound effects; no voice-over. These are selected published observations, not seven species raced under identical conditions. Early entries are reported unladen walking values; Paratrechina longicornis is a mean exploratory speed; the desert entries are highest observed runs in their respective studies. Sizes, gait and racing sequences are illustrative. 00:00 The speed beneath our feet 00:06 Red wood ant 00:15 Silky ant 00:24 Carpenter ant 00:33 Rough harvester ant 00:42 Longhorn crazy ant 00:51 Salt-pan desert ant 01:00 Saharan silver ant 01:09 What the numbers mean Sources https://biorobotics.harvard.edu/pubs/... https://doi.org/10.1016/j.crvi.2005.0... https://doi.org/10.1007/s00359-015-09... https://doi.org/10.1242/jeb.198705 Music: Aquaria by cynicmusic / Pixelsphere (CC0), https://opengameart.org/content/aquaria .
