Valkyrie Profile is a Norse mythology-based role-playing game series developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix, created by Yoshiharu Gotanda. The game was released in December 1999 in Japan, and eight months later in the U.S. The first game of the Valkyrie Profile Series released on the Sony PlayStation. It focuses on the reawakening of Lenneth Valkyrie, who is given the task to recruit and train fallen human warriors for the Aesir in a war against the Vanir. Along the way, Lenneth learns the of tragic stories of brave humans as well as encountering interesting players in the past that may sway her from her task as a Valkyrie. An enhanced-port of Valkyrie Profile was later released on the Sony PlayStation Portable as "Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth". A prequel and a second prequel were later produced because of Valkyrie Profile's success. Around 73,000 copies of the game were available in the U.S., making this game rare and hard to get ahold of. The discs for the original PS1 version were easy to scratch, making the game unplayable. There are some physical copies of the game for the PS1 out there, but depending on where you look, it could cost you anywhere between $100 - $1,000. On the other hand, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (the PSP port) is much more affordable and easier to acquire. The vast majority of copies on Amazon range anywhere from $30 - $60.
