Athens Metro Line 1: Modernized Trains Now in Service | CAF

For more than four decades, Athens Metro Line 1 has connected communities across the city. Now, thanks to CAF's modernization programme, its trains are ready for the journeys ahead. The modernized trains are now in operation, marking an important milestone in the renewal of Athens' urban rail network. Through the modernization of 14 metro units originally introduced in the 1980s, CAF is extending their operational life by a further 25 years, combining proven reliability with modern technology. More than a refurbishment, this project demonstrates how modernizing existing rolling stock can enhance performance, safety and passenger comfort while supporting a more sustainable approach to urban mobility.
