KALIMPONG Location : Kalimpong is located in the northern part of the state of West Bengal, in the northeastern region of India. It is adjacent to the state of Sikkim and near the Teesta River. It is set amongst the foothills of the mighty Himalayas at an altitude of 1250 m above sea level. Kalimpong is 50 km from Darjeeling and 80 km from Gangtok. The weather in Kalimpong is alpine. Kalimpong Tourist Places : Mangal Dham Temple : Built over an area of two acres, the Mangal Dham Temple is among the popular tourist places in Kalimpong. The prayer hall of the temple is on the upper floor, as on the ground floor lies the samadhi of Guruji Shri Mangaldas Ji. The many paintings in the temple depict various scenes from Krishna Leela. Dr. Graham’s Homes : This missionary school was set up by Dr. J A Graham in 1900 as an orphanage cum school for the destitute Anglo Indian children. It started only with one cottage that accommodated up to 35 children. Over the years it has grown as a well known multi religious and co-educational school spanning over 500 acres of lush landscape and having some 50 cottages. The Army Golf Club : is one of the important tourist attractions. It is an excellent place for photography. You can focus from all angles at the valleys around and get classy photos of the Durpin monastery. This Golf Club keeps the offices of the army fit for high altitude soldiering. Morgan House : Located in the verdant greens of Kalimpong, Morgan House is a mansion built by Mr. and Mrs. Morgan in the 1930s. It is an archetypal example of colonial architecture in Kalimpong. What makes visiting this gorgeous piece of construction even better is that it is surrounded by legends of it being Haunted! It has been converted into a lodge for tourists and is under the administration of the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. Durpin Monastery : Consecrated by Dalai Lama in 1976 Jang Dong Palriffo Brang Gompa is also known as Durpin Monastery. The monastery serves as a sample of Buddhist construction style with beautiful paintings on the walls and the sacred Kunguyar serve as an important feature of this monastery.Ths place offers peaceful and calm atmosphere along with the beauty of the Himalayan ranges. Hanuman temple : Located on the way to the Deolo Hill, the Hanuman Temple in Kalimpong is another quick stopover. You need to climb a set of stairs to reach the Hanuman statue which is the tallest in northeast India. Being one of the best places to visit in Kalimpong, India, you must add this to your itinerary while holidaying there. Durga Mandir : Dedicated to goddess Durga, this mandir is a few yards from the Hanuman temple. The temple is small, but boasts of a beautiful garden. The surrounding hills add to its aura and charm. Seek your blessings here. Guru Padmasambhava – Lord Budddha Statue : It is a small stopover on the way, to or from Deolo Hills. It’s a large statue of Lord Buddha, standing tall and magnificent. The whole ambience of the place is very nice and soothing. It’s calming and a good retreat from the walk. The golden statue of Lord Buddha, awe inspiring and pristine. Kalimpong Hotels : There are many hotels for staying in Kalimpong like Pokhrel Lodge , Apas residency, Hotel Ashiyana, Orchid Lodge, Hotel Mountain View, The nest, Dhardo Retreat, The Shire, Sikher Guest House, etc. How to reach : Kalimpong is well connected by road from the various places including NJP, Siliguri , Bagdogra etc. from NJP the distance to kalimpong is about 75 km by road via Teesta Bazaar and takes about 2.5 hours to reach .
