Could you spend one year traveling while ten years pass on Earth? Einstein's relativity allows it in principle—but getting back to the time you left is a very different problem.
Join ARI for a clear, animated journey through the real science of time travel. Discover why astronauts return slightly younger, how a simple light clock explains time dilation, and what it would take to turn a few milliseconds into years. Then explore the science behind Interstellar, hypothetical wormholes, and the puzzles that make traveling into the past so uncertain.
Would you take the trip if everyone at home experienced ten years while you experienced just one? Tell us in the comments.

A NOTE ON THE SCIENCE
The one-year/ten-year example assumes travel at 99.5% of light speed and neglects the time spent accelerating and turning around. It is a simplified physics example, beyond today's human spaceflight capabilities. Time dilation is measured; travel into the past has not been demonstrated. There is no reliable date for building either a human spacecraft that skips years relative to Earth or a past-travel machine.
