What starts with cactus fruit in a Bethlehem market turns into one of the most unexpected and beautiful conversations we’ve ever had. Years ago on one of our epic trips through Israel and the West Bank, we met a Palestinian man who invited us to his home. We accepted… then realized we had no address, no phone number, and no way to find him again in a crowded city. We prayed. The next day we ran into him. That evening, over tea with his family, he asked if Jamie would take a walk. He led him up into the hills to a statue of Mary holding the infant Jesus and said, “I’ve been waiting for years to ask somebody this question. What does this mean?” What followed was a conversation about the virgin birth in the Quran, the death and resurrection of Jesus, and a man whose heart was already longing for the full story. He didn’t want to ask other Muslims. He didn’t want to ask local Christians. He was waiting for someone he could safely ask. This is a story about hospitality, about God preparing hearts long before we arrive, and about the quiet courage it takes to stay available when the Lord says, “Go talk to that person.” It is also a living reminder of Cornelius in Acts—someone praying and seeking while God is already arranging the meeting. The fields really are white. The question is whether the workers are willing to go.
