Super Mario Essex - All Boss Battles

Super Mario Essex (SUPER MARIO ESSEX) is the hottest new Japanese SMW ROM Hack created by an anonymous user in 2025, featuring a lot of vanilla assets blended in smoothly to the un-SMW custom backgrounds. There's tons of bonkers custom sprites and bosses, and I'm all in for it. This is all five bosses from the hack, including the vanilla one. The names aren't official (outside of Oda Gengoro and Cirno), but I figured they fit. Attack Helicopter is probably the most technically impressive boss fight of the entire game in my eyes. The turret you fire at it provides a unique challenge ontop of it trying to shoot at you, and yet it does gives you a bit of leniency. Following it is Cirno, and she's deceptively simple in that she only has one move: the snow flakes. They have a timer that will eventually freeze them into solid blocks for you to bounce on her. But during the last phase is when things can get pretty stressful as you need to act quick as to which ones to platform on (in this rematch I missed hitting her at the end twice and then getting sniped immediately after. Ugh! 😭) Next comes Oda Gengoro, which is just vanilla big boo with throw blocks to drag from the other side of the arena. It's probably the least impressive fight in the whole game, though I like how the train stops when you beat him. I don't know the reference being made to the 4th boss, but there's 3 business suits who act like fighting game characters but with boom-boom type logic of having to bounce on each of them 3 times. Bowser is also having a good ol' chuckle on the monitors (I think the frame there is from the Gamecube Mario sports titles?) It's another neat fight, though fairly easy. The last boss is one of the first things people talked about when the hack was first discovered, and it's basically Giant Princess Peach wearing a Mario outfit who is drawn in "an appealing way." The actual fight with her is extremely easy; none of the projectiles thrown follow any sort of pattern as it's all completely RNG, but they're so infrequent and slow I found Cirno and Helicopter a lot more challenging. Ironically the goomba (galoomba, whatever) is the most dangerous projectile lol. I did purposefully delay fighting her just enough to see the whole credits. I feel like there could've been a lot more done with her actual movement (say: moving left and right, or even lowering herself?), or having some interesting patterns with the projectiles thrown. Overall it's cute, and maybe that's the point as a reward for having beat most of the game lmao.
