I take you inside the surprising system that makes Hutterite colonies split, move, and start over again across the Canadian Prairies. I explain why growing colonies need new land, how rising farmland prices and 30-million-dollar construction costs are changing the process, and why Hutterites use technology, manufacturing, and communal ownership to keep their way of life going. I also look at the history of Hutterite migration, the Rocky View colony sale, and where new colonies are heading. Finally, I examine the quieter kind of leaving: people who walk away from the colony and the faith, often with almost nothing of their own. The story is about land, growth, tradition, and a system designed to survive by moving.
