What initially looked like a small infiltration would soon become one of the toughest battles ever fought by the Indian Army. This is the story of Operation Vijay — the Kargil War of 1999. From the first signs of infiltration in the Kargil sector to the battles for Tololing, Point 5140, Point 4875 and Tiger Hill, this documentary follows how Indian soldiers fought their way up some of the most difficult mountain positions under extreme conditions. At these heights, every step was dangerous. The thin air, freezing temperatures, steep cliffs and enemy positions above made the battlefield brutally difficult. But the Indian Army kept climbing. The story also follows some of the soldiers who became symbols of courage during the Kargil War — including Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav and Rifleman Sanjay Kumar. We look at how Operation Vijay worked alongside the Indian Air Force's Operation Safed Sagar, how the battles unfolded across the Kargil sector, and how India eventually reclaimed the occupied positions without crossing the Line of Control (LoC). The documentary also explores what happened behind the battlefield — the diplomatic pressure, the role of Nawaz Sharif and Bill Clinton, Pakistan's decision to withdraw, and the events that finally led to 26 July 1999, the day remembered as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
