the last nocturne (Piano BGM for ‪@KaelixDebonair‬ ) - performance ver.

Commission for Kaelix! Note that this is a one-take performance version, which is different from the one you'll hear in the stream :)    • 【NEW OUTFIT】 to the bitter end 🗡️🕯️ #Porce...   When Kaelix approached me for this piece, the inspiration he gave me was 'A Shard From Past Glories' from Genshin, along with a motif he had previously created. I wanted to capture that bittersweet and melancholic tone, but also took a lot of inspiration from Chopin's Nocturnes, specifically op. 9 no. 1 in Bb minor, as well as some elements from the Raindrops Prelude. What I noticed from the Genshin track was those repeating notes that pulsed softly along the beats, which for 'The Last Nocturne' became an ostinato/counterpoint amidst Kaelix's motif and large open chords. In the latter half of the piece, the ostinato fades and comes back in amidst open octaves...a little something I took from Interstellar ;) And why are there two versions? Because I am a stubborn person who wants to be able to perform the pieces I wrote outside of a VST as well, and this piece ended up being one of those 'it sounds easy, but control is everything' classical pieces that I had to practice much more than I thought I needed to for LOL. Especially for bringing out Kaelix's motif amidst the counterpoints that needed to be kept constant and in the background, and hitting those high open octaves as softly as possible. Also, I had intended for the piece to release the soft pedal at places, but the fact of the matter is, my Estonia grand is absolutely NOT suited for this type of muted, muffled sound, so even though I performed with the soft pedal throughout the ENTIRETY of the piece, I still ended up need to EQ the heck out of the top ends.
