It’s a song about letting go of relationships that promise you love, but feel like a trap. “Birthday” was written after moving from Chile, first to Toronto and later to Nova Scotia. The turning of the seasons became a metaphor for a relationship reaching its end — for the feeling of knowing that something can no longer keep growing, no matter how much you want it to. “Birthday” is part of Voluntad, the upcoming album by Chilean-Canadian art pop band Mueres en el Mar.
