What happens when an Indian woman falls in love with a Black Ugandan man — despite the cultural expectations of her family? In this episode of Dialogue with Emukule, I sit down with an interracial couple — a Ugandan man and an Indian woman — to discuss their journey from meeting at work in Dubai to building a marriage across race, culture and religion. Their relationship raises important questions about interracial marriage, Indian culture, African culture, family expectations, racism, cultural identity, religion and integration in Uganda. The Indian woman shares what her parents initially thought about her relationship with a Black Ugandan man, the challenges of introducing him to her family, and what it was like to go against some of the expectations surrounding marriage within her community.
