In this rhythm guitar lesson, I explain what Metric Modulation is and how to use it for songwriting and create smooth and logical tempo changes and meter changes. Metric modulation is a remarkable rhythm technique that creates rhythmic tension between sections. It's used frequently in Progressive Rock and Progressive Metal but you’ll in in other styles just as well. You can see it as a rhythmic variation of the key modulation using a pivot note value instead of a pivot chord.
I’ll guide you through the theory step by step, I’ll give you practice ideas and -most important - I’ll show you real music examples so you can get inspired and be able to use metric modulation in you music.
