WHO GETS PAID? Why is printer ink so expensive? Follow one $23 cartridge into HP's own annual report and see what the numbers show. By my arithmetic from HP's fiscal 2025 report, supplies (ink, toner and related supplies for home and office printers) brought in about $10.9 billion, nearly twice the rest of HP's printing business combined. Printing is about 30% of HP's revenue and about 62% of the profit its divisions report. What this video covers What HP's own numbers show: the machines are not where most of the printing revenue is. Printing versus laptops and desktops: about $18.70 earned per $100 of printing against about $5.30 per $100 of PCs (division earnings, before company overhead). What the filing says (and does not say) about the profit on supplies. Price per page on HP's own store: the small and the big black cartridge. The cartridge-authentication lawsuits HP describes in its filing, and why they are only allegations. How to read the numbers Figures come from HP Inc.'s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended October 31, 2025 (filed December 2025), unless marked as an example. HP does not report profit for supplies, so no supplies profit number is claimed. "Supplies" covers ink and toner for home and office printers plus media and industrial and 3D supplies; the filing does not split them. The per-page prices are HP US store list prices read on October 17, 2026 and HP's stated page yields (tested in an HP ENVY 6000 printer); real pages and prices vary. The ten pages a week example is an assumption. Dynamic Security claims are allegations described in the filing; the legal note gives no reason or motive for the feature. Sources HP Inc.
